History of the Club

B.P.S Sports Club which was founded in 1940 is completing 83 years. B.P.S. Sports Club is named after first Goan Governor Bernardo Peres Da Silva. He was appointed Governor General in the year 1835. He was a men of great intellect, courage and of independent character. He was born at Neura in Tiswadi Taluka. His love for Goa and reforms for the benefit of Goans was not liked by the Portuguese, and hence he was forced to resign. He was Governor General of Goa for only seventeen days. It was only after 105 years the Portuguese Government appreciated his work by donating a piece of land measuring 10,000 sq. mts and passed a statute to form a Club which was called Club Desportivo Bernardo Peres da Silva by the then Governor General Jose Cabral in 1940.
